First Draft of Treatment.

A child follows her curiosity, and is being lead to an enchanting wintery world that is full of magic and adventure. Meeting characters from a world she will never forget, learning what friendship, family and home really mean.

Sketches

Here are a couple of rough sketches I have done over the last couple of weeks. None of them are the final idea, just initial sketches. I have also sketched  a first draft of Ellie's grandparents house.

Initial Idea.

For this animation I would like to create an animation set at Christmas time about a little girl called Ellie. Ellie lives with her grandparents and discovers a secret gate at the end of the Garden, which she finds when she spots a dear at the end of the garden to who leads her to the gate.  Ellie is then transported into a world of magic where animals can speak and the deer is in fact one of Father Christmas' reindeers who is in need of help to find his way home. Ellie decides to help the reindeer and then embarks on a magical adventure, and has a Christmas that she will never forget.

Mood.

Here is a mood board I have made on the theme christmas. It is just a first go at doing a mood board for the theme of my animation for this project.

Halloween.

Characters.

Here is a character design of Rudolph the reindeer that I did just playing around with basic shapes in Flash.

I recently brought a new Wacom Tablet, I have never used a tablet before so this is me just playing around trying it out.

Here is another character I designed using shapes in Flash.

Festive.

For my animation I have been thinking about either doing a Halloween animation or a Christmas animation. One of my favourite animated films is The Nightmare Before Christmas which combines both Halloween and Christmas. This film, like Coraline also explores different worlds. I want my animation to be aimed at children, but to appeal to all age groups and somthing the whole family to enjoy.

Disney.

Most of my favorite films are Disney films. For my animation I want my target audience to be Children. I want my animation to be colorful and bright.

Here is a screenshot from Disney's Beauty and the Beast, this film also explores another world. A world where house-hold items have a personality. Above is s picture of Mrs. Pots and her son Chip. In the film a witch has cast a spell on a number of people who worked for the Beast and turned them into household objects, until the spell can be broken when the Beast can find someone to love him even when he trapped in the body of a beast.

I love how imaginative and colorful this film is, some scenes in the film can be cold and dark but when showing the personality's of those in the house the film is bright and warm.

Above is a screen shot from another Disney film 'The Lion King' and the colour scheme is also just as bright as 'Beauty and the Beast'. Having 'cute' characters and bright colour pallets make the films appeal more to children and families. Children can relate with the younger characters in the film, For example Simba in 'The Lion King' cannot wait to grow up and become king of the jungle.

For my animation I want to create characters in which a younger audience can relate to.

Coraline.

One of my favourite animated feature films is Coraline. It is a story of a girl who moves to Michigan with her parents and begins be feel a bit ignored. She then decided to explore her new home and discovers a parallel 'other' world in which her parents and everything in seem more 'perfect', she soon learns that she prefers her old world and that in the other world all is not as perfect as it seems.

I like this film because it explores something that is impossible in everyday life, exploring another world. As people, especially as children we can often think to ourselves 'Whaf if?' I enjoyed how the film shows that what people wish for is not always what they really want, Coraline is left wishing she could return home to her 'old world' but the 'other' parents are trying to trap her and she learns to appreciate her parents and friends she has.

For my animation I would like my main character to explore another world. Weather it be a parallel world or a world they are not familiar with I like the idea of my character being in unfamiliar surroundings.

Hello.

Hello. My name is Astra and this is my blog for my final year Animation Project at Sheffield Hallam University. For this module we have to create a concept for an animation we would like to create and develop and plan the animation. The type of animation I have always been interested in is animation for children, and animated feature films that the whole family can enjoy.

For this project I would like to create an animation for a children audience. I want my animation to be fun, simple, colourful and imaginative. I want to make an animation with characters people will fall in love with like some of my favourite animated movies.
